Inheritance Law in Serbia — What You Need to Know
Inheritance law regulates the transfer of property after the death of the deceased. In Serbia, probate proceedings are initiated before the basic court and managed by a public notary.
There are two bases for inheritance: by law (legal heirs) and by will (testamentary heirs). The legal order of succession is determined by the Inheritance Act.
A will can be handwritten, judicial, or notarial. Each has specific formal requirements that must be met to be legally valid.
